First US born-Hispanic woman to earn a doctorate in mathematics
The transition from Mexico to America was not an easy one for Dr. Hernandez-Rebollar and he has commented that he wished he had learned more English.
Dr. Jos Hernandez-Rebollar, Ph.D. is a young scientist making a reputation as an innovator on a mission. He was born in Puebla, Mexico.
He dedication to helping the deaf has led him and others to develop an electronic glove that will translate sign language into spoken words.
Dr, Ruth Gonzalez said the following in an interview in 1998: "if they can just see how much science affects them every day, these kids begin to understand its relevance in their lives and learn that math can be fun, not just some horrible subject the have to suffer through."
Both of her parents are from Mexico. She grew up in Houston, Texas. She attended the Univesity of Texas and got her Ph.D. in mathematics form Rice University.
